Standard resealing assumes the existing surface is sound enough to clean, prepare, and accept another compatible coat. Stripping changes the project. When is stripping actually necessary?

Stripping is usually considered when the old sealer is peeling, whitening, milky, patchy, heavily built up, incompatible with the proposed product, or trapping moisture. It may also be needed when a previous coating has darkened the pavers unevenly or created slick, over-applied areas.

Do not assume every faded driveway needs complete removal. If the existing coating is still bonded and chemically compatible, a professional may recommend cleaning, preparation, joint-sand restoration, and a controlled recoat. That is why the first decision should be cleaning, resealing, or stripping—not automatically choosing the most aggressive option.

What should a proper quote include?

A credible proposal should separate the restoration steps instead of hiding everything under “seal pavers.” Look for measured square footage, test-area findings, expected number of removal passes, stain or efflorescence limitations, joint-sand scope, repairs, sealer system, cure restrictions, and what happens if the existing coating proves harder to remove than expected.
